London Boroughs & Neighbourhoods Guide

Cricklewood & Willesden Green:
Local Life in North-West London

Brent is not on most tourist itineraries — and that is exactly why it is worth a look.

Brent is one of the most dynamic boroughs of the British capital, in the north-west of London. It is not among the most touristy areas: its charm lies in its energy and in the way it keeps changing. Around the NW2 postcode you find places such as Cricklewood, Dollis Hill and Willesden Green, with Kilburn a little further south. Over the years these neighbourhoods have become lively hubs of everyday life, with a unique cultural mix and constant new development.

Cricklewood: A Neighbourhood on the Rise

Cricklewood in particular has changed a lot in recent years, thanks to local initiatives aimed at improving everyday life, encouraging mutual respect and integration. The community is very diverse — Irish, Muslim and many other communities live side by side — and this cultural blend enriches the neighbourhood. The result is an atmosphere of cohesion that makes Brent a good example of how London's many cultures live together.

Pubs and Nights Out

For a night out, Cricklewood has more options than you might expect. Element Tree, a bar-pizzeria, becomes a popular meeting spot at weekends with events and themed nights. The Beaten Docket is a busy pub that draws a young crowd with its lively, welcoming atmosphere. And for fans of Irish tradition, Barretts is the place for a pint of Guinness in a warm, friendly setting, where time seems to slow down as people chat.

Local tip: Cricklewood Broadway is the border between Brent and Barnet — one side of the road is in one borough, the other side in the next. Nobody notices, but it explains why local guides sometimes disagree.

Why Visit Brent?

Brent does not have the grand monuments of the West End or the City, but it is still worth exploring — to see the daily life of Londoners and to experience the melting pot of cultures that defines so many of the city's neighbourhoods.

Wembley Stadium

For football fans, Wembley Park is just three stops from Willesden Green on the Jubilee line. It is home to the iconic Wembley Stadium, and on non-match days the area around it offers a more relaxed, genuine atmosphere — an interesting view of London beyond the traditional tourist routes.
